TO ALL MEMBERS OF KENYA EDITORS’ GUILD:
INTERVIEWS FOR THE CHAIR AND MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA
COUNCIL OF KENYA (MCK) SET TO RE-OPEN.
We would like to bring to your attention the following matter:
- The High Court has dismissed Petition No. E040 of 2023 in which petitioners James Mutahi Muchiri and Robert Leroy Ochieng – had
sued the Kenya Editors Guild and others.
- The petitioners had filed an application and petition seeking
Conservatory orders against the Selection Panel for the Media Council of Kenya, barring the selection panel from concluding the process of recruitment of members of the Board of the Media Council of Kenya, pending the hearing and determination of the Application and petition.
- The Guild was sued together with five other Respondents and one interested party.
- The matter was heard by Honourable Justice Chacha Mwita for judgment.
- Members of the Guild are notified that the court dismissed the consolidated petitions and directed that all parties bear their own costs.
- It is instructive to note that quite a number of members of the Guild who had applied for the above positions were denied an opportunity for consideration after the scheduled interviews were cancelled.
- A copy of the judgment will be sent to members once it is received.
