The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy has held a joint planning meeting with the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) and the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) ahead of the 8th Annual Editors Convention, set to take place in Kilifi County from November 26 to 30, 2025.
The consultative session, led by Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Stephen Isaboke, focused on aligning priorities, partnerships, and policy discussions for this year’s event themed “Truth, Trust & Technology: The Place of Journalism in the Digital Era.”
The convention is expected to bring together editors, policymakers, regulators, and media stakeholders to reflect on the state and future of journalism in a rapidly changing digital environment.
“As the digital landscape evolves, it is crucial that we strengthen trust in journalism while embracing innovation that enhances accuracy and public interest reporting,” said PS Isaboke.
KEG President Zubeidah Kananu described the theme as timely, noting that journalists must balance technological advancement with the core values of credibility and truth.
“This convention will be a space for editors to rethink how technology, artificial intelligence, and social media are reshaping journalism,” she said.
Media Council of Kenya CEO David Omwoyo emphasized the importance of collaboration between regulators and editors in upholding ethical standards and media freedom.
“Our shared responsibility is to ensure that journalism remains credible and independent while adapting to the new media ecosystem,” he added.
Now in its eighth edition, the Editors Convention has grown into one of the most significant gatherings for Kenya’s media industry. It provides a platform for reflection, learning, and policy dialogue — addressing issues such as AI in newsrooms, digital transformation, sustainability of media businesses, and press freedom.
The 2025 convention in Kilifi is expected to feature plenary sessions, workshops, and stakeholder forums, with participation from regional and international media partners.
