On October 2, 2019, the Media Council of Kenya invited Kenya Editors Guild, among other stakeholders, for an October 3 meeting convened to discussing proposed new guidelines on accreditation for journalists. The invitation letter was dated September 26th, 2019, but was not sent until October 2nd, 2019, a day before the meeting. The Guild was unable to attend due to the short notice, and duly wrote to the MCK expressing its regret; requesting adequate time to study the proposals and formulate its response. KEG has since had time to study the document, and after wide consultations, asks for further discussion and broader consensus on the following general observations and specific issues:
