The Guild Newsletter —June 2026

Dear Members and Partners,

The second quarter of 2026 has been marked by purposeful engagements, strategic partnerships, and a renewed commitment to strengthening journalism in Kenya and across Africa. Every initiative we have undertaken reflects our shared vision of advancing press freedom, professional excellence, and media innovation.

A key milestone was the launch of the inaugural Pan-African Media Summit, held in partnership with the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), the Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ), and the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK). The summit brought together media leaders from across the continent to shape the future of African journalism. We also participated in the inaugural Broadcasters Convention 2026, contributing to conversations on the evolving media landscape.

Partnerships continue to be at the heart of our work. During the quarter, KEG hosted a Partners’ Breakfast to appreciate our collaborators and strengthen existing relationships.

We also engaged the Judiciary, Safaricom PLC, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), Radio Africa Group, and other stakeholders on issues affecting journalism and public interest.

As Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election, we strengthened collaboration with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and worked with the Media Council of Kenya to review the election reporting guidelines for journalists and media practitioners.

We also continued investing in the next generation through engagements with academia, including mentoring journalism students at the Technical University of Kenya, while expanding partnerships with AMWIK, WAN-IFRA, and international partners to advance media development and newsroom safety.

The quarter also featured engagements with the Office of the Ombudsman, sensitization forums with partners including the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA), and our ongoing Press Club conversations. As we look ahead, we are excited about the upcoming launch of the KEG Podcast, which will create a new platform for dialogue on journalism, leadership, and innovation.

Thank you to our members and partners for your continued support as we build a stronger, more resilient media sector together.
