Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) President Zubeidah Kananu has called on the media industry to embrace innovation, technology, and youth-driven creativity to remain relevant in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Speaking during a visit to Konza Technopolis City, Kananu urged editors and journalists to think beyond traditional storytelling and newsroom routines, emphasizing the need for a media ecosystem that speaks the language of innovation and responds to new audience habits.

“The future of media must go beyond the newsroom. We need to tell stories that connect technology, innovation, and human experiences. Our industry must invest in young people who are fluent in digital tools and creativity,” she said.
Kananu noted that with the increasing shift to digital consumption, the media must adopt new models that combine content creation, technology, and business sustainability. She emphasized collaboration between media professionals, academia, and innovators at Konza Technopolis as key to fostering a new generation of journalists equipped for the digital economy.
“We cannot be left behind as technology advances. Konza represents the future we must prepare for—one that requires journalists who are not just storytellers, but innovators and problem solvers,” Kananu added.
The KEG President also highlighted the importance of aligning Kenya’s media growth with national development goals under Vision 2030, saying the Guild will continue to champion professionalism, training, and partnerships that position the country’s media at the heart of Africa’s digital transformation.
Her visit to Konza Technopolis underscores KEG’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with institutions driving Kenya’s innovation agenda ahead of the upcoming Annual Editors Convention, which will explore the intersection of media, technology, and sustainable development.
